It happens all the time: Midway through a conversation, you mention something, and realize you'd love to share it. Maybe it's pictures from your recent vacation, maybe it's an adorable video of your cat (or dog, or even tarantula,) or even a set of documents you need a second opinion on.
But, what's the best way to get those files to them? One option is ShareByLink. You can download our desktop app for Windows, or upload instantly via our web upload tool.
Skype itself has support for file uploads up to 300MB, and supports many file types. Files uploaded to Skype are available to anyone with access to the conversation for 30 days, after which they are deleted from Skype's servers.
Unfortunately, this system has a number of limitations: Files larger than 300MB are not allowed, certain file types may be prohibited (.ade, .adp, .app, .asp, .bas, .bat, .cer, .chm, .cmd, .com, .cpl, .crt, .csh, .exe, .fxp, .grp, .hlp, .hta, .inf, .ins, .isp, .its, .js, .jse, .ksh, .lnk, .mad, .maf, .mag, .mam, .maq, .mar, .mas, .mat, .mau, .mav, .maw, .mda, .mdb, .mde, .mdt, .mdw, .mdz, .msc, .msi, .msp, .mst, .ocx, .ops, .pcd, .pif, .pl, .pnp, .prf, .prg, .pst, .reg, .scf, .scr, .sct, .shb, .shs, .tmp, .url, .vb, .vbe, .vbs, .vsd, .vsmacros, .vss, .vst, .vsw, .ws, .wsc, .wsf, .wsh), and the shared file is only available to people who were in the conversation at that time.
ShareByLink is an excellent alternative for sharing your files. Any file type up to 2GB can be securely shared with this free tool. Better yet, it's fast: As soon as your start uploading and share your link, anyone with access to the link can immediately start downloading your file, even as you continue to upload it!
Like with Skype, files uploaded to ShareByLink are available for 30 days. However, if you would like to remove them earlier than this for any reason, simply navigate to your sharing link download page, and flag the file with reason Other. This will delete your file from the ShareByLink servers.
