File Convoy is an online file sharing tool which requires no signup to use.
We at ShareByLink feel we've got a better free file sharing service, but we like to review our competitors to see what they've got. PS: We have some additional features like an optional desktop app, instant link generation, a modern interface and more.
At FileConvoy, users are provided with a few straight-forward options when uploading their file, presented in the bare-bones style of the site. They are able to select a variety of retention times, after which their files will be automatically removed from the File Convoy servers. While the 21-day limit is lower than what is offered by many other file sharing sites, it is nonetheless sufficient for peer-to-peer file transfers. At the time of writing, the maximum file size supported by File Convoy is 3029MB.
Once a file upload is completed, File Convoy generates a link which can be transferred to the intended recipient or posted online. For further convenience, users can provide the necessary details to have the file sent in an email to multiple recipients and with a customized message once the upload finishes. When a file associated with an email address is downloaded, File Convoy sends a notification email, and aggregates multiple notifications into a single message if possible.
The file upload progress is displayed at the bottom left of the window, where status information is normally displayed in the browser. Unfortunately, this can make it easy to overlook. File Convoy’s site is also text-heavy, and the layout can feel cluttered with the various warnings and explanations.
Like ShareByLink, File Convoy’s service is offered free of charge, and only displays a few unobtrusive advertisements on the download page.
What sets it apart from the rest:
- File Convoy offers a straightforward interface with clearly presented options. Like ShareByLink, there's no need to sign up or create an account, it is very easy to get started.
- At the time of writing, the layout and interface of the File Convoy site tends to feel crowded and bare-bones.
- Lower file retention times.
- No desktop app.
